OH RUBBISH!!! was one-of-a-kind for an odd reason. A nearby cemetery always had fabric flowers under hedges, in gutters and across the street...so this started me thinking. What pretty rubbish it was. In time I began to notice how many fabric related items I'd seen on the streets. Buttons, hankies, ribbons, earrings, gloves and socks, were in abundance if I really took time to look. I wondered if I could make a quilt from rubbish and collected and washed items until I felt there were sufficient to warrant trying to come up with a picture. The picture is created from all 'found' items. The only thing I did not 'find' was the thread and a small square of stabiliser I used under sock fabric. Even the batting (bedraggled blanket) and backing were found items. These were accumulated in about a year, with travels from four different countries. My family was relieved when I stopped fishing in my purse for a plastic bag to pick up a sock or hanky! |
