THE BIBLE STORY QUILTS
As a home school mom, the liberty of teaching the children - sometimes meant we took on extra and unusual projects. Before they were allowed to 'learn art' they had to complete a series of drawings (to capture that innocent whimsy before it was destroyed by instruction.)
Bible stories were something they all were familiar with and loved. After simple drawings were made, I used a photocopier to enlarge these until they were a uniform size, then drew a "frame" with some simple element from the drawing.
These were then traced onto muslin, (by mom) with a permanent pen, and the children coloured them with special art iron on crayons. Sadly I've never found fabric crayons since that matched these for vibrance or durability.
This project was done little by little so they didn't become bored or frustrated with the process. Through the years the children created many long term projects, but this is probably my all time favourite.
