BEGINNER BAG NEED LIST
FABRIC REQUIREMENTS:
4 fat eighths
1 fat quarter -these five fabrics should be coordinated, or work well together, but still have good contrast.*a hint for choosing fabrics, choose a fat eighth that has some zing, maybe a multi-coloured print that appeals, Call this your feature fabric, then choose other colours from within that print. When all fabrics are chosen, lay them together and squint…if any two meld or blend together remove one and choose something with better contrast.
1/2 meter background for blocks – tone on tone, or solid- should be the darkest, or the lightest fabric – and should pass the squint test with the other fabrics.
1/2 meter lining fabric.
These fabrics should be 100%cotton. Pre-washed and ironed. I recommend avoiding open weave fabrics (like homespun) or very heavy weight fabrics (like furnishing fabrics or denim). Directional prints, lines and plaids are not best suited to this pattern.
1 metre heavy needle punch batting - this is thick, regular batting even if doubled will produce a floppy tote- the minimum measure for this batting is 22 x 36 inches.
Other Needs For Class
· Sewing machine, quarter inch foot, multi-plugs, spare needles
general sewing machine gear.
· Quilter ruler of 18 or more inches, roller cutter, cutting mat

· Scissors, Pins, quick unpick, general sewing gear
· 50 or so safety pins
· 2 spools of thread that match the background fabrics
· one meter of 1inch wide web strap for handles (if over-shoulder straps
desired, bring 2 metres) preferably cotton webbing but nylon is acceptable.
