Texas born, I've lived in New Zealand for over thirty years, having
learned my craft by the side of some of New Zealand's most amazing
quilters.
These quilters have taught me to trust my colour instincts, try new things and most of all - that quilters are truly some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
With all these years working with quilts, my love of design and creation just grows! It is a pleasure to be able to share here some tips and ideas, and would love to hear from you on your quilting journey!

COMING TO Christchurch New Zealand 2026!

Quilt symposium 2026 is nearly here. This year the event is to be held on our gorgeous South Island in Christchurch, The Symposium will be hosted on October 1-6th at Burnside High School. (click on the logo for a link to their webpage)
The classes I'm scheduled to teach this year are Old Fashion Hand Quilting, Hand appliqué Your Way and Temperature Quilts. Each of these is a one-day class. The deadline for quilt entries for the exhibition is August 2nd. This is being written on July 25th with many people scrambling to finish binding and taking photos of their creations. The exhibitions are always just spectacular with the best of the best putting their heart into their entries. My entries are all in, now for the nerve-wracking wait as they are juried by the judges. Here's hoping for some good new mid August! |
NEW CLASS 2026!!! Temperature quilts: Designing SolutionsTemperature quilts are certainly a trending thing, but can land a little intimidating without a firm plan in place. This class is designed to take out the guesswork, explore possibilities and trouble-shoot before the problems arise.
Lots of resources and many patterns will be provided in class. 10 patterns in three different sizes will be available to students, from the simplest to the more complicated. Layout issues, fabric choices, pattern limitations, all covered in this one day class. Students leave classes with a binder for preparation, charts, samples and confidence to dive off into the unique quilt of their design. |

HARE THEY ARE! - This pattern is also available in my Etsy shop, as individual blocks or as the entire quilt. This is created with raw-edge appliqué method with free motion outline. Like REAL TWEETS, there are lots of pages with thorough colored instructions. |

My in-laws celebrated their 60th anniversary, meeting up with all the family in Hawaii in February! Jeff and I arrived a couple of days early so I could teach at 'Quilting on the Beach' in Kona. The three small classes were: my one day Mariner's Compass class, Real Tweets two day canvas mounted class and the old fashion hand quilting class.
The attendees were lovely and friendly. My first class was held at the shop. (great little shop if you ever visit Kona) The rest of the classes were held in the old airport, a very open situation, and felt very island-y. We covered everything at night to protect it from the resident birds! The beach was not far from the complex, however not close enough to get sand in your gears! The shop name is Quilt Passions, if you get by, make sure to say hello to Karen or Michealanne for me! |

The Christchurch quilt guild asked me to fly up and teach for a couple of days in April. Both classes were Mariner Compass Stars with the Encompassing star class on Friday. This class is a raw-edged version of these stars, fast and fun and shiny. The ladies put their heads down and cut and ironed together a beautiful galaxy.
On the second day the class was Mariner's Compass, drafting with my Starwhiz tool. So many clever quilters, from the most complex to the most simple, they just did a stellar job. (no moaning, I'm almost done) It's always a wonder to me how everyone has the same instructions and all their work looks so amazingly different! Thank you to Wendy for hosting me during my stay. |

Aroha Quilt shop in TeAroaha NZ is owned by Karen Larson. Karen spotted me wearing my 'twitch' jacket created from a the HARE THEY ARE block and asked me if she could carry my patterns in her shop.
Karen is the only shop that carries my physical patterns and is now developing a block of the month from the Hare pattern! In June I was invited to visit, and teach for two days, with ladies choosing to either create the central block, or the foxglove block. The fabrics chosen by Karen were perfect, and the ladies did a fantastic job in this class. Karen will be at Symposium with her great selection of batiks!
